Old tyres not safe - Swiss Auto club
ERJ staff report (DS)
Berne, Switzerland -- The Swiss Touring Club (TCS) has studied old tyres and found that, even with a full tread, wet braking and other performance parameters deteriorate with age. As a result, TCS tells members not to buy tyres more than two years old.
For example, a five year old tyre takes an extra 6m to stop from 80 kph in the dry, compared to a new, fresh tyre. TCS found simlar loss of performance in wet braking.
