Tokai carbon plant damaged in Tohoku earthquake

Tokyo - Tokai Carbon has said operations at its Ishinomaki carbon black Plant suffered extensive damage from the earthquake
and tsunami. Operations at the unit are suspended while investigations continue.
The company also has a factory in Sendai, operated by Tokai Konetsu Kogyo Co., Ltd., This unit resumed operations on 28 March, following a thorough inspection of the facilities.
Tokai said it has confirmed that 185 of its 187 employees at the two plants are safe, but has no information on the two missing persons. The company said, “We would like to express our deepest heartfelt sympathies to the people who were affected by the massive Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011.â€
