Rubber prices plunge after Japanese disaster

Tokyo -- Prices on international rubber exchanges plunged by around 12 percent over the weekend. Automated systems on Tokyo's TOCOM suspended trading activity following the sharp drop.
On Tokyo's TOCOM Exchange, prices for the six-month contract were suspended and no prices were available, but shorter-dated contracts plunged by around 50 yen or 12 percent on thin trading,finishing at yen 348.5 ($4.25) per kilo on Monday 14 March.
In Singapore, Sicom said short-dated RSS3 prices also moved down, closing down about 10 percent at $4.80 on minimal trading. Short-dated TSR 20 also fell to close at $4.40
India's NMCE prices also fell, with March deliveries finishing down over Rs 15 at around Rs 198 ($4.38) per kilo
Shanghai Future Exchange also eased significantly, with the highest price recorded at yuan 35.5 ($5.40) per kilo for short-dated contracts. Longer-dated contracts were priced around Yuan 33, down 6 percent on Friday's close.
