Toyo returns to profit in first half

Osaka, Japan -- Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd. has reported much healthier figures for the six months to 30 Sept., 2010.
Net sales reached 143,431 million yen (euro 1271 million) , an increase of 13,822 million yen or 10.6 percent up from the first-half of FY 2009). Operating income reversed last year's loss, recording an operating profit of: 4,087 million yen (euro 36.2 million) compared with an operating loss of
1,300 million yen for the first-half of FY 2009.
The tyre business unit posted net sales of 104,084 million yen and operating income of 2,506 million yen. The company said EU unit sales and net income significantly exceeded the same period for fiscal year 2009 due to the recovery in demand.
The DiverTech business units posted net sales of 39,262 and operating income of 1,531 million yen.
