ERJ staff report (RD)
Trelleborg, Sweden -- To meet “continuing high demand,†Trelleborg has doubled the production output capacity of its Elastopipe offshore and marine fire prevention system by building a new factory and production line in its existing Krokstadelva site, 50 km south of Oslo, Norway.
According to Trelleborg, the patented rubber, flexible piping system, is 100-percent corrosion free, explosion, impact and jet fire resistant, and offers weight advantages, cost savings, easier installation and improved performance, compared to conventional rigid steel pipes, the Swedish company's website said.
The new 1200 sq.m factory took around 18 months to build, the statement said.
“Demand for Trelleborg's Elastopipe corrosion proof seawater deluge system, and its many other applications including hydrocarbons and gas transport, has rocketed despite the recession,†Thor Hegg Eriksen, president of Trelleborg Offshore Norway AS, said in a recent statement. “Contractors and operators are realising its minimal maintenance and low lifetime cost benefits, and 80 per cent of our output is now exported,†he added.
“Further potential is huge and in addition to the Norwegian market, Trelleborg has supplied and installed the Elastopipe system in the Netherlands, Denmark, UK, Russia, Qatar, Canada, Singapore, Brunei and Australia,†Eriksen said, adding, “New markets are also opening up in Brazil, Malaysia and Indonesia.â€
