Continental focuses on safety at Auto China 2010
ERJ staff report (RD)
Hannover, Germany -- Continental is presenting its “Simplify your Drive†concept, in partnership with Donfeng Passenger Vehicle (DFPV) Company, at Auto China 2010, held from 23-27 April 2010. “It's a great milestone for a Chinese local OEM to put emphasis on this brand-new operating and system concept in the Chinese market,†Conti said in a 23 April company statement.
The new concept helps vehicle manufacturers to adapt their vehicles to their target groups and reduce the number of compromises required during the course of vehicle development, Conti said, adding that the vehicle profiles provided by the new concept are an “easy-to-use solution for the driver.â€
According to Conti, using the new system, drivers will be able to switch easily between Eco, Sport and Comfort profiles “at the touch of a button.â€
The concept also provides “clear user guidance with the help of sophisticated display systems†and body and security systems including tyre pressure monitoring.
“We want above-average growth in Asia. Last year, we already increased our sales in Asia so that they now make up 14 percent of our sales,†said Elmar Degenhart, chairman of the Continental's board. “But this is only an interim goal. In the long-term, we want to increase our sales considerably, and therefore our share in Asia overall, and especially in China, will be similar to the share we have known for many years in our current core markets of Europe and North America,†he added.
In May 2010, Conti will celebrate the opening of the 1000th certified tyre shop in China.
“The 'Simplify your Drive' concept was firstly introduced in Europe and now we are cooperating with the first OEM in Asia/China who shows strong interest in this technology“ said Jay Kunkel, president Asia and Member of the Automotive Management Board of Continental.â€
