Texas Petrochem adds capacity for polyisobutylene

Houston, Texas -- Texas Petrochemicals Inc. has completed commissioning of its new polyisobutylene (PIB) production unit at its Houston plant site. The plant started on October 6, 2008 and is shipping product to customers.
Polyisobutylene is not used directly in the rubber industry, but uses the isobutylene monomer, which is also used to make butyl rubber. PIB is used in caulks, sealants, adhesives, cling film, lubricant base stocks and personal care.
