Showa Denko announces Q 1 2008 results
Tokyo, Japan - Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) today announced a 7.8 percent increase in net sales in the first quarter (1 January - 31 March) of 2008 to JPY 246 882 million (Euro 1540 million) compared with the same period last year.
However, operating income decreased 35.3 percent, to JPY 9 709 million (Euro 61 million), due mainly to higher depreciation expenses, the appreciation of the yen against the US dollar, and soaring raw material and fuel costs.
The company said sales of chloroprene rubber rose, reflecting steady shipment volumes and selling prices.
