Lanxess adds Nd catalysts to BR unit in Orange
Leverkusen, Germany - Lanxess AG started production of neodymium polybutadiene (NdPBR) at its site in Orange, Texas in September. Lanxess said the move was drtiven by increased demand in particular for NdPBR and solution-SBR in high-performance tyre applications.
High performance tyres often use silica compounds, and the best interaction between silicas, organo-silanes and rubber is achieved with solution-SBR and neodymium catalysed BR.
"The additional production also enhances our capability to meet the US demand for domestic cobalt polybutadiene (CoPBR) with complementary NdPBR grades," said Timothy Rae, head of Marketing NAFTA, Polybutadiene Rubber (PBR) business unit. "This is an important step to fulfilling our strategy as a reliable supplier of high- performance PBR products from multiple locations worldwide," Rae added.
