Daetwyler seals used in Bosphorus tunnels
Schattdorf, Switzerland -Â Sealing gaskets by Daetwyler Rubber are being used in the construction of several large mass-transit projects , including a tunnel underneath the Bosporus Strait and several metro lines.
Today construction of Marmaray Tunnel under the Bosphorus Straits separating Europe from Asia, is advancing rapidly. Expansion of the feeder track to the ten km Bosporus Tunnel, scheduled for completion in 2009, is being executed with tunnel boring machines (TBMs) and precast reinforced-concrete tunnel segments. The demanding requirements for watertightness of the single-wall structure are being met with Daetwyler Rubber CoexSwell gaskets with integral swelling compound.
Also under construction is the expansion of the Otogar-Bagcilar metro line on the European side of Istanbul. Here, TBMs are cutting 9.2 kilometers of tunnel. The joints between tunnel segments are being sealed with efficient mono-EPDM gaskets.
