Colombo, Sri Lanka -Â Laugfs Rubber (Pvt.) Ltd. is investing $3 million this year to add capacity at its plant in Millewa-Horana, Sri Lanka, for solid tyres for forklifts and other heavy machinery.
Laugfs Rubber, part of Sri Lanka's Laugfs Holding Ltd., expects most of the solid tyre production will be exported to Australia and South Africa.
“We have got orders from these countries, from companies which engage in mining,†Thilak de Silva, managing director, said.
Incorporated in October 2005, Laugfs Rubber is located about 25 miles southwest of Colombo with a plant in the heart of Sri Lanka's rubber district. The firm's porfolio consists primarily of small pneumatic tyres for three-wheeled vehicles prevalant in Sri Lanka, but the company has indicated it's developing tyres for motorbikes, cars and light-duty commercial vehicles.
