Bridgestone opens aircraft retread plant in China
Tokyo -- Bridgestone Corp.'s aircraft tyre subsidiary has begun retread production at a new plant in Qingdao, China, the unit's fifth retreading plant worldwide.
Bridgestone Aircraft Tire Co. (China) Ltd, a subsidiary of Bridgestone Aircraft Tire Company (Hong Kong) Ltd, opened the plant 12 July.
Bridgestone did not disclose the plant's size or capacity but said it is located on a 24.7-acre site in Qingdao. It has 49 employees at start-up, involved both in retreading and sales of new tyres.
Bridgestone said the new unit will serve the growing demand for aircraft tyres and retreads in China. Bridgestone's other aircraft tyre retread plants are in Miami, Florida, Frameries, Belgium; Hong Kong; and Tokyo.
Bridgestone makes new aircraft tyres at its plant in Kurume, Japan, and is adding capacity for them at its Tokyo plant as well.
