Michelin opens tread manufacturing plant in Mexico
Queretaro, Mexico - Michelin opened its Michelin Retread Technologies tread manufacturing plant in Queretaro today, the company announced.
The new plant is adjacent to Michelin´s current Mexican headquarters and passenger car tyre plant in Querétaro. The tyre treads that will be produced at the facility are specially designed for use in retreading commercial truck tyres through Michelin´s proprietary MRT process, the company said.
With an investment of $40 million dollars and with the support of a 120-person team, Michelin has established its first-ever tread manufacturing plant in Mexico to meet the growing demand generated by the 16 MRT retreading plants located throughout the country, the company said.
The plant will also provide supplemental support for other MRT plants in the US and Canada.
Jim Micali, Michelin North America Inc. president and CEO, said the retread market in Mexico is the seventh largest in the world with a growing demand for the company´s products, and the opening of the plant in Querétaro will allow Michelin to fulfill the growing needs of local customers as well as support the company´s North American business.
