Michelin to transfer CV tyre production to Tours from Poitiers
Paris--reports in French newspapers indicate that Michelin plans to transfer production of commercial vehicle tyres from its factory in Poitiers to a plant in Tours. The company said overall employment would not be affected, but about 400 workers at Poitiers would be offered positions at Tours. The two factories are 100km apart.
Michelin says capacity at Tours would initially be increased by 25 percent, bringing annual output to over 1 million units, but Tours will become a key centre for CV tyre production. Michelin said Tours would continue to export half its oputput.
The Poitiers site will become a regional logistics centre, said the company. Employment at Poitiers will fall from 480 to about 50.
