Findlay, Ohio-Cooper Tires has announced that it is to begin making racing tyres at its facility in Athens, Georgia. The company currently makes all its racing tyres at the Cooper-Avon facility in Melksham, UK, but Cooper said, "demand for our motorsport tyres in the US has outpaced our ability to produce them at our UK factory"

The company is also expanding its race tyre activities in the UK. A spokeswoman for Cooper-Avon said the Melksham facility will continue making race tyres for the European and other regions, and is expanding its provision. She said it makes more sense to make tyres close to where they are used, and that is the reason for moving production of US racing tyres to Georgia.

Carl Casalbore, Cooper's vice president of marketing and retail sales said, "Cooper's racing heritage now spans two continents. Athens will be supported with assistance from our technical centers in Findlay, Ohio, and Melksham, UK, and the tyre and vehicle test center in Pearsall, Texas. Racing tyre expertise also will be provided by Cooper-Avon's European racing team."
