UK tyre recycling group emerges
By Patrick Raleigh, ERJ On-line/news editor
London-The UK is to have a new scrap tyre recycling body, called the Tyre Recovery Association (TRA), which so far includes 22 tyre collectors and reprocessors. The industry group is to be formed out of the Tyre Industry Council's Responsible Recycler Scheme this summer.
According to Tyre Industry Council secretary Peter Taylor, the TRA marks “a coming of age†for the Responsible Recycler Scheme, which was established four years ago. The new body, he said aims to help tyre makers and retailers meet their environmental responsibilities.
“The TIC Responsible Recycler Scheme introduced world class standards of compliance and accountability to the collection and management of post consumer tyres and these standards have in turn engendered a sense of pride and professionalism in the business of tyre recovery,†commented Taylor.
The TRA will be based at the British Rubber Manufacturers' Association's office in London.
