JK Tyres agrees deal with IIT for tyre modelling
India's JK Tyres has committed Rs 60 million (Euro 1.1 million) to establishing a Centre of Excellence for Tyre and Vehicle Mechanics at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Madras. The company said the initial funding will be about Rs 15 million, with the remaining spend coming over the next three to four years. The unit is expected to carry out numerical simulations using the IIT supercomputers, and the agreement calls for IIT to publish academic papers for peer review, demonstrating the innovative nature of the research. JK said it would evaluate the rubber materials, and provide that data to the IIT, whoch would use it to evaluate tyre designs.
