Lincoln, Nebraska-Goodyear will close a two-building warehouse and distribution centre in Lincoln, cutting about 160 jobs, and move the operation to an undisclosed location.
The new site gives the firm more space and will be operated by a logistics provider, a company spokesman said. The closing and move will improve customer service and accelerate product deliveries, according to Jim Pecorelli, director of global manufacturing for Goodyear Engineered Products, which operates the Lincoln facilities.
The transition to the new site is expected to begin in July, the spokesman said. The 160 job cuts include both salaried and hourly employees, he said. Goodyear has operated the warehouse and distribution centers in Lincoln for 30 years. The facilities handle automotive replacement belts and hose along with industrial power transmission products.
“We will reduce shipping time, increase fill rates and on-time deliveries, and simplify transactions,†Pecorelli said, adding that the new distribution location is part of the company's strategy to improve total order turn-around cycles.
