Nanodiamonds can now be a US seal-maker's best friend
Based in Nashua, New Hampshire, Silicon Sense is the US representative of Finnish nanodiamond manufacturer Carbodeon Ltd Oy.
Rubber products show up among a wide range of industrial applications for Carbodeon ‘s nanomaterials, according to a company spokeswoman.
Products used, she said, include a nanodiamond graphite mixture with low impurity content and low polar surface chemistry. This is used in rubber seal applications by a number of companies in the process industries.
The EPA registrations, under the low volume exemption (LVE) rule, cover four main Carbodeon product ranges including three mono-functionalised nanodiamond grades and one multi-functionalised grade, it said.
“Following precise environmental risk analysis using data from Carbodeon as well as invaluable inputs from a number of our US customers, the EPA has granted LVE registration for all Carbodeon proprietary nanodiamond materials currently supplied in the USA,” said James Meriano, vice-president of Silicon Sense.
The EPA approval will enhance Carbodeon ‘s position in the US marketplace and beyond, according to Dr Vesa Myllymäki, CEO of the Finnish company.
"The four approved types of nanodiamond product are used in enhancing thermal, mechanical and other properties in polymers, coatings and metal finishing across multiple industries including electronics, automotive, aerospace and defence, industrial and consumer," said Myllymäki.
