Stoke-on-Trent, UK – A set of Michelin XeoBib tractor tires still have two-thirds of their tread remaining after doing more than 2,500 hours of demanding slurry work, according to a 15 Dec Michelin press release.
Paul Nixon, who runs Selkirk-based contracting company R&S Nixon & Co, fitted the tires to his Massey Ferguson less than two years ago - switching from using budget tires.
“Any initial saving you make by fitting budget tyres is quickly eaten up, as we have found the tires wear faster and therefore need replacing much more frequently. With Michelin we’ve found the absolute opposite, the tyres last longer – meaning we really get value for money.”
Reinforced sidewalls and special rubber compounds make the tires, which employ Michelin’s patented Ultraflex Technology, "extremely strong, even at low pressures, ensuring they last longer," the tire maker said.
In the field, Michelin’s XeoBib tyres reduce soil compaction by distributing pressure over a larger surface area, which helps to avoid rut formation and soil compaction.
“When a farmer comes out to see our work and his quad bike is making deeper marks in the field then we are,” Nixon added in the Michelin release
