Shanghai, China — Dow Corning Corp. officials say they appreciate efforts of the Chinese officials in their effort to crack down on counterfeit trafficking.
Dow said that Chinese authorities have made several arrests since November, breaking up a counterfeiting ring that was selling fake Dow Corning silicone sealant in six provinces and one city, including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Shanghai. Dow said officials have seized imitation Dow Corning products and arrested more than 10 counterfeiters.
“Dow Corning is immensely grateful to the Wuxi New District Public Security Bureau for its great effort to fight counterfeit products,” said Jeremy Burks, Greater China president. The bureau supported the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on the case.
“When the government attacks counterfeit products, it not only protects customers from low-quality products, but also improves the local investment environment, giving companies confidence in the China market,” Burks said in a news release. “Protecting intellectual property like this will drive sustainable industry development and ensure that customers have access to highest-quality materials produced with responsible and safe methods.”
The illegal products replicated Dow Corning’s line of silicone sealants, used in homes, schools and businesses.
Dow Corning said its silicone sealants are produced to ensure long-term durability, safety and sustainability of the materials and meet environmental, health and safety standards. The company said counterfeit products offer no such safeguards.
“Dow Corning has a zero-tolerance stance on counterfeiting and won’t rest until these low-quality products are completely removed from the market,” Burks said. “This year we have stepped up our efforts to proactively work with law enforcement authorities to protect our customers and partners by removing these risky products from the market.”
Dow Corning, which produces silicones and silicon-based technology, offers more than 7,000 products. More than half of Dow Corning's annual sales are outside the US.
