Sumitomo Rubber reports higher sales, profits in Q1

Kobe, Japan - Sumitomo Rubber Industries has reported improved financials for the three months to 31 March 2012. The company said sales increased to yen 167 billion (euro 1616 million) from yen 145 billion a year earlier. Operating income increased to yen 16 billion from yen 9.7 billion reported a year earlier.
Tyre sales amounted to yen 145.3 billion while sports goods sales amounted to yen 14.8 billion and industrial goods generated yen 6.95 billion in sales.
