Virginia fines Yokohama's Salem over silane pollution

Salem, Virginia - Yokohama's tyre-making facility in Salem Virginia has been fined over excessive emissions due to its introduction of silica-silane mixing and the consequent emissions of ethanol. The company did not seek permission before the emissions began.
Virginia's Department of Environmental Quality has issued fines and charges totalling almost $50,000 to be paid within a month.
Yokohama began silica-silane mixing at the plant in 2004, but did not seek permission to generate ethanol emissions
