Michelin launches Primacy 3
ERJ staff report (DS)
Paris - Michelin is currently premiering its Primacy 3 tyre, which will be available in European replacement markets beginning in February 2012. Michelin said the new product, “will open a whole new era in road safety.â€
Michelin said it has deployed an innovative design process that integrates the in-depth understanding of road accidents acquired by its R&D teams. These were shown at the recent Challenge Bibendum event, in which Michelin engineers said the worst time for accidents is in urban areas when roads appear dry, but the air is saturated with moisture, leading to a micro-film of water on the road surface which affects grip. Michelin said drivers are not aware that grip has been compromised, so do not compensate, as they do when roads are clearly wet.
Thus, the Primacy has been engineered to deliver better grip in these transitional situations between dry and wet conditions, as well as long life and good fuel economy. Michelin said the tyre also offers high total mileage while reducing fuel consumption - in this case by 70 litres over the full life of the tyre.
