Lanxess closes office in Tokyo on 'Quake fears

leverkusen, Germany -- Lanxess has temporarily closed its office in Tokyo and banned other staff from travelling there. Local staff have moved temporarily to the Rhein-Chemie rubber chemicals plant in Toyohashi, some 250 km southwest of the Japanese capital, which continues to operate. The company said the move reflects the current situation in Japan.
Lanxess's Japanese headquarters is in Tokyo. Lanxess also has a customer and service center for its Leather business unit in Himeji, about 500 km southwest of Tokyo.
The company said it employs about 100 in Japan, all of whom are unharmed and there has been no damage to its facilities.
