Spider nests in rubber fuel hoses force recall of Mazda cars
ERJ staff report (DS)
Washington DC -- Mavda Cars has voluntarily recalled about 52 000 Mazda6 cars in the US and Canada due to a problem with rubber fuel hoses.
The vehicles affected are Mazda6 vehicles with 2.5 litre engines built between 8 April 2008 to 8 February 2010.
The potential problem is that a certain type of spider may weave its web in the fuel system, leading to a blockage, which then confuses the fuel venting system, leading to excessive negative pressures in the fuel tank and th epotential for fuel tank failure.
