Goodyear to temporarily close four plants in North America
Tire Business staff report
Akron, Ohio -- Goodyear is to close temporarily four of its North American tyre plants during August to reduce production and inventory to meet demand levels, a company spokeswoman said.
Goodyear's plants in Gadsden, Alabama, Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Union City, Tennessee, will shut during the last two weeks of August. The company's Napanee, Ontario, plant will close for only the last week of the month.
Goodyear's Lawton, Oklahoma, plant will also be affected and will run a “reduced daily production schedule†for one week, the spokeswoman said.
The company plans to reduce consumer tyre production in 2008 by 8 million units vs. 2007 output, she said.
