ATC finalises plans for US OTR plant -- seeks bids from suppliers

Chino, California -- American Tire Corporation (ATC) has finalised the development plan for its Washington radial tyre manufacturing facility, ready for, "an aggressive growth strategy in the OTR tyre business."
ATC said he new facility will consist of seven manufacturing plants, two warehouses, one multi-function distribution centre, and one research and training building. It will occupy a land of 130 acres (52 ha).
The company said it intends to construct the most advanced tyre-building machines and vulcanising presses onsite. Meanwhile, all related equipments, construction, and raw materials are to be procured by way of international competitive bidding in the first half of 2008. Any tyre qualified equipment manufacturers, raw material manufacturers and construction companies are encouraged to make offers from 1 Feb until 31 March, 2008.
With a total investment of US$500 million (Euro 336 million) by the end of 2009, ATC aims to become the largest and best manufacturer for 63- and 57-inch tyres in the US. It said the new Washington facility will reach its full capacity of 50 000 giant radial OTR tyres, which includes 24 000 units of all sizes of 63-inch tyres, per year.
