DuPont in $500 million Kevlar expansion plan
Wilmington, Delaware, DuPont has said it intends to spend $500 million (€360 million) to expand its para-aramid fibre production in the United States. DuPont sells para-aramid fibre using the name Kevlar.
DuPont said the investment plan will begin later this year with a polymer expansion at its site in Richmond, Virginia, but did not say what other projects were involved.
For DuPont, this expansion would increase Kevlar capacity by more than 25 percent when complete in 2010 and represents the largest Kevlar expansion since the product was introduced in 1965. DuPont said it would release more details about other projects included in the investment plan a later date.
