USW and Carlyle reach tentative agreement on contract

Akron, Ohio -- The United Steelworkers (USW) and Carlyle Group have reached a tentative agreement on a contract covering workers at Goodyear Engineered Products in the US.

Carlyle reached a deal in March to buy Engineered Products for about $140 million (€102 million, and the company and union have been in negotiations on a contract since shortly after the acquisition was announced. The USW contract with Goodyear had a succession clause stating that a purchaser must reach a new pact with the union before the sale can be completed.

Details of the tentative labor agreement were not released but a source close to the situation said a ratification vote by union members likely will take place next week. The company and the union did not comment on the negotiations or proposed contract.

Plants covered by the contract are in Lincoln, Nebraska; Marysville and St. Marys, Ohio; and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin Overall, Goodyear Engineered Products employs 6 500 around the world.
