London - With several major rubber-related international expos* scheduled to take place in Germany this year, all eyes are on the status of trade fairs lined up for early 2022 amid the continuing Covid crisis.
While the pandemic situation could improve, soundings are less than encouraging for organisers of any international industry event being held in Germany, especially during the first quarter of the year.
For many, the real bellwether will be the decision by organisers of the Hannover Messe on whether or not to proceed with 25-29 April staging of the world's largest industrial show.
In response to ERJ's enquiry, a spokeswoman from organisers Deutsche Messe said: "We are looking to postpone the Hannover Messe event. You will get more information on Friday afternoon."
In Frankfurt, meanwhile, international consumer goods fairs Christmasworld, Paperworld, Creativeworld and Ambiente, due to take place in the first two months of 2022, have been cancelled.
“In view of the exponential worsening situation worldwide and the accompanying tightened travel and contact regulations, the [events] are cancelled,” Messe Frankfurt announced 5 Jan.
The situation, it said, is “deteriorating worldwide and the spread of the Omicron virus in Europe and Germany currently makes it impossible to keep the dates [for the four trade fairs] in Frankfurt.”
In Cologne, furniture industry expo imm cologne, 17 to 23 Jan, has been cancelled, and the Hardware Show postponed until autumn. However organisers Koelnmesse said it is “ fundamentally committed to organising its events in the first quarter of 2022.”
“The cancellation of imm cologne takes into account the concerns of the exhibitors who considered the economic success of the event to be in extreme jeopardy,” stated Koelnmesse - citing industry concerns over the impact of the pandemic.
