Mussolente, Italy – Trinseo has expanded its thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) research and development centre in Mussolente, Italy, the company announced 26 Jan.

The project, it said, is part of wider growth strategy to develop Trinseo’s portfolio of custom engineered TPE, thermoplastic urethanes (TPUs) and bioplastics.

The R&D unit, which is led by Marco Meneghetti, global TPE T&I leader, supports Trinseo’s two manufacturing sites for soft plastics – Mussolente and Hsinchu, Taiwan.

The facility, located on the premises of Trinseo’s main TPE manufacturing facility, has been under construction since February 2020.

At the end of 2020, Trinseo also opened a pilot TPE facility in Hsinchu, as well as acquiring the PMMA business from Arkema, noted Natalia Scherbakoff, Global Director Technology & Innovation.

All these steps, together, are moving Trinseo along in the direction set by company transformation strategy, that of becoming a provider of specialty compounds and material solutions,” said Scherbakoff.
