London – The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has named Alison Jones as its 82nd president and first female leader, the association announced 23 Nov.
Jones currently serves as senior vice president and country manager UK for Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Abarth, Jeep and Alfa Romeo at automotive giant Stellantis.
Effective 1 Jan 2022, Jones will replace Dr George Gillespie OBE, who is stepping down at the end of 2021 after completing his three-year tenure.
Gillespie’s normal two-year term was extended amid the Covid-19 pandemic to enable him to provide continuity, SMMT added.
Prior to her current position at Stellantis, Jones served as group managing director UK and SVP Groupe PSA between February 2019 and March 2021.
Prior to that she worked with the Volkswagen Group, where her most recent position was managing director of Volkswagen passenger cars.
“Despite what has been one of the most turbulent periods in history, our industry has delivered over 115 zero emission capable models,” said Gillespie welcoming Jones to her new position.
“As we look to the future, the infrastructure challenges are myriad, yet they also present an opportunity to transform the mobility sector and deliver long term economic growth for the UK,” he added.
