Milan, Italy – Pirelli & C. SpA has scaled down production at its tire manufacturing plant in Settimo Torinese, western Italy, following a confirmed case of Covid-19 (coronavirus) at the site.
The move will allow the factory to operate with a “very limited number of employees” and “maximum safety", the Italian tire maker said in a 10 March statement.
Pirelli did not give further details on the volume of cuts but said it expected production to have “a progressive recovery in the coming days.”
Pirelli said the supply to clients would continue “with a suitable level of service”, using available stock.
The tire maker is currently it is disinfecting the entire manufacturing plant.
Operational since 1955, the Sttimo plant manufactures passenger cars and racing tires and has the capacity to produce 10,000 units a day, according to ERJ Global Tire Report 2019.
