Kolkata, India – Phillips Carbon Black Ltd (PCBL) is preparing to commission a 32 kilotonne per annum expansion project at its Palej facility in the first quarter of 2021.
The brownfield project, which started in early 2019, is expects to be commissioned by the end of fiscal year 2021 (started April 2020), the Indian carbon black manufacturer said in an investors update in Sept.
Based in Palej, Gujarat, the carbon black plant currently has three production lines with a total capacity of 110ktpa.
In addition to rubber black grades, the facility also has the capability to manufacture speciality carbon blacks for applications in plastics, inks, paints, coatings.
Despite a sharp downturn in the automotive market during the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, Phillips said it expects to benefit from a shift towards personal mobility and pent up demand.
“Replacement demand and a good monsoon would negate the current headwinds in the automotive supply chain caused by the Covid-19 outbreak,” the company said.
