Milan, Italy – Pirelli & C. SpA has launched a reorganisation scheme to broaden its management team in line with the company's succession plan for 2023, the Italian tire maker announced 15 July.

As part of this, executive vice chairman and CEO, Marco Tronchetti Provera is to propose the appointment of Angelos Papadimitriou as the general manager and co-CEO who will report directly to him.

Papadimitriou is currently the CEO, of Italian packaging firm Coesia and has previously served as president and managing director of GlaxoSmithKline.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Papadimitriou has almost 30 years of professional experience in the advanced industrial and the healthcare sectors, having worked in various countries in Europe and in the United States.

Tronchetti Provera will make the proposal to the board of directors meeting scheduled for 23 July, Pirelli said without specifying when the appointment will come into effect.

The reorganisation, it said, aims to expand the management team for the “future succession path” outlined by the “procedure” adopted by the tire maker earlier this year.

The procedure foresees that by October 2022 a candidate should be identified to be proposed as the new chief executive officer of Pirelli in the first half of 2023.

Under the proposed new "macro-organisational structure", the executive vice chairman and CEO will continue to head the direction and control of strategy and extraordinary operations.

He will maintain as his reports: Corporate affairs, compliance and company secretary; strategic planning & controlling and investor relations; communication and brand image; global institutional affairs and sustainability.

The general manager co-CEO will be attributed with “all the necessary executive levers, as well as all the staff areas not reporting directly to the executive vice chairman and CEO, and the general manager operations, Andrea Casaluci.”
