Tatarstan, Russia – PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim has started the production of solution styrene butadiene rubber (SSBR) at its manufacturing facilities in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan.
The plant produces 60 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of divinyl solution styrene butadiene rubber, to be used mainly for the production of green tires as well as footwear and toys, Nizhnekamskneftekhim announced 26 May.
The rubber products, according to the Russian manufacturer, enhance the performance of tires, increasing wear resistance while improving wet grip and fuel efficiency.
The new plant also includes a styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymers (SBS) thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) production unit which came online in April.
The TPE products, said Nizhnekamskneftekhim, are used as additives for road surfaces, shoe-soles and roofing materials.
The inaugural ceremony on 26 May was attended by a number of officials, including Tatarstan minister of industry and trade Albert Karimov, director general of parent company TAIF JSC Ruslan Shigabutdinov, and Sibur chairman Dmitry Konov.
