Clermont-Ferrand, Paris – Group Michelin is investing in future job skills and digitalisation as it prepares employees for the transitions currently reshaping the automotive industry.
In particular, the French group has created a unit to track and analyse the various aspects of the so-called “future of work” – which could entail working from home, the gig economy, and collaborative working – Michelin said in a written Q&A session 23 June.
The tire maker has also implemented a new strategic workforce planning (SWP) process, to help identify the skills it will need in the future.
As part of the move, Michelin said it had “broadened and deepened” its digital culture.
Michelin said it had invested in extensive digital resources in order to “agilely and continuously develop the technical skills of our employees.”
“This is addressing the fact that never again will a career be built around the skills acquired early on in a person’s career or in a single job family,” it added.
