London – Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) is to launch a tire pyrolysis sub-group of members in response to growing interest in the technology.
The aim of the new group, which will hold its first scoping meeting in January 2021, will be to consider pyrolysis in the context of the current regulatory environment, TRA said in a 3 Dec statement.
In addition, the group will investigate barriers and opportunities in the areas of product and market development.
The TRA statement noted an increase in the number of potential new market entrants, adding that the UK should prepare to benefit from the developing process.
“From being all too often viewed as a ‘problem’ waste our old tires should be seen as an important resource which deserves to be better valorised,” the statement added.
The hope, it said, is that tire pyrolysis – as a now emerging technology – will play a significant role in achieving this ambition.
