Seregno, Italy – Indian off-highway tire manufacturer Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) has partially restarted manufacturing in all its factories, following dialogue with and approval by local governments.
The Indian group has also restarted supply and delivery to the OEM and aftermarket channels, a BKT statement said 29 April.
The Mumbai-based tire maker suspended production at its facilities following the introduction of a nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19 on 24 March.
BKT has four tire production plants in Aurangabad, Maharashtra; Bhiwadi and Chopanki, Rajasthan; and Bhuj, Gujarat, where it also runs a carbon black manufacturing unit. The tire maker also operates a tire moulds production unit in Dombivali, near Mumbai.
According to the 29 April statement, all factories observe a number of health & safety procedures, including social distancing and body temperature monitoring.
The tire maker said its supply chain team in Mumbai and its logistics and sales support team in Seregno, Italy, had remained in close contact with raw material suppliers throughout the lockdowns.
This allowed the production to restart “without any time being lost,” BKT added.
