Tokyo – Denka Co.’s elastomers and performance plastics segment has reported declines in sales and profitability for the three months to end of June, the company reported 7 Aug.
Segment operating income fell 0.6% to Yen3.8 billion (€32 million) on 3.2% lower sales at Yen39.4 billion, Denka said in its first quarter report.
Denka linked the decline to lower sales volume of chloroprene and transparent resins within the segment.
Chloroprene rubber is a key product manufactured by Denka's elastomers unit.
For the full year, Denka expects to increase segment income mainly due to lower maintenance cost.
This year, the company said it is not planning to shut down its styrene monomer plant.
