Paris – WWF France and Michelin have renewed their zero deforestation partnership for another four years to further develop sustainable practices amongst natural rubber (NR) producers.
The partnership, which originally began in 2015, will seek to advance a pilot project in Indonesia to restore forests and build responsible rubber plantations, said Michelin 26 July.
The project is already under way in regions that have sustained damaged and those that have priority status for the WWF due to their rich biodiversity and their proximity to the Bukit Tigapuluh park.
The field project, according to Michelin, has made “major progress” in areas such as inclusion of local communities, clamp down on illegal deforestation and the protection of land for the elephant population.
The renewal of the partnership will enable the continuation of this project, Michelin added.
During the initial phase of the collaboration, Michelin and WWF worked on the definition of sustainable NR, the development of procurement practices, and the promotion of good practices.
