Tokyo – Mitsubishi Electric subsidiary Tokan Co. issued falsified data on some its manufactured rubber products, the parent group acknowledged in a 26 Nov statement.
The Japanese group did not specify which components were involved, though media reports indicated that the parts were used in trains and lift applications.
Tokan manufactures rubber products for industrial use, including handrails and rubber rollers for escalators.
Most of the substandard materials had been shipped to Mitsubishi Electric, which then used them as parts for its products, said the global supplier of electric and electronic equipment.
“We have delivered goods to our customers, and part of them do not satisfy the contract specification with customers,” according to a translation of the Japanese-language notification.
Mitsubishi Electric, however, added that its investigations showed that the rubber parts would meet “[the requirements for] the basic performance of our products.”
