Zibo, China – Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Corp. has opted to use a Topsoe catalyst to control VOC emissions at its styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) plant in Zibo.
The Catox catalyst is described as a ‘platinum monolith’ that oxidises hazardous VOCs into harmless CO2 and H2O at very low temperatures.
The SBR facility has two lines with a total capacity of 240,000 Nm3/h (normal metre cubed per hour), Sinopec in a 12 July statement.
This, it said, makes the project the largest current emissions control project for an SBR plant in Asia.
Sinopec Qilu, part of Sinopec Group, claims to be the biggest synthetic rubber producer in China.
According to the company, Haldor Topsoe has already delivered the catalyst charge for a new regenerative catalytic oxidiser at the Zibo plant.
“The catalyst performance has been excellent since start up,” said Li, vice plant director of Sinopec Qilu Rubber.
The catalyst, said Sinopec Qilu, was tailor-made to meet its requirements for performance, total investment cost, and pressure drop.
