Stockholm – A joint project run by Research Institute of Sweden (RISE), together with tire recycler Scandinavian Enviro Systems and waste management group Ragn-Sells is studying the possibility of producing pyrolysis oil from worn out tires.
The aim of the study is to evaluate three different approaches for upgrading pyrolysis oil from tires to make more high-quality fuel products, said Enviro in a 5 June statement.
As part of the project the Scandinavian Enviro Systems’ recycling plant in Åsensbruk, will recover discarded tires through pyrolysis process, where carbon black, pyrolysis oil, steel and gas are obtained.
“Our initial results are promising, and we hope and believe that the project will contribute to a sustainable tire recovery,” said project manager Linda Sandström.
RISE will help with the scientific process at its labs and pilot facilities in Piteå and Södertälje, where the oil quality will be improved.
