Brussels – The European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has welcomed a European Parliament decision concerning access to in-vehicle data.
MEPs have overwhelmingly voted to request the European Commission to initiate legislative moves to ensure unrestricted access to in-vehicle data by the yearend, the association reported 14 Mar.
Unimpeded access to in-vehicle data is essential for the tIre industry to contribute to the future of mobility, road safety, and competitiveness, believes ETRMA.
Legislative measures, it added, will support consumer rights, innovation and fair competition and contribute to security and data-privacy.
The regulatory agenda on connected and intelligent transport needs to move forward, according to Fazilet Cinaralp, secretary general of ETRMA.
“There is the need for a standardisation of an in-vehicle interface allowing data flow from the vehicle to third parties’ applications,” said Cinaralp.
Also needed, she said, is legislation “with a precise implementation timeline to allow industry and the consumers to fully benefit from the tire mobility revolution.”
