Hanover, Germany – Trinseo has expanded solution styrene butadiene rubber (SSBR) production capacity at its facility in Schkopau, Germany by 33%, according to a company official.
Speaking to ERJ at the Tire Technology Expo in Hanover on 20 Feb, director of technology & innovation, Sandra Hofmann said the 50 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) asset-upgrade was completed “recently”.
The project, she pointed out, has raised total SSBR production capacity at the facility to 200 ktpa.
“We just added 33% to the capacity, which will be our fourth SSBR train,” she explained.
An official inauguration of the expansion, according to Hofmann, is set for “next week”.
The Berwyn, Pennsylvania-based company has also commercialised production of a home-grown neodymium butadiene rubber (Nd-BR) late last year, according to Hofmann.
In 2014, Trinseo announced plans to convert its nickel butadiene rubber production train in Schkopau, Germany to manufacture Nd-BR.
The Nd-BR unit, which has a nameplate capacity of 30ktpa, was opened in November, said Hofmann.
