Houston, Texas– Material & Design Solutions (MDS) of Houston has launched a new line of low-compression set perfluoroelastomers (FFKM) compounds for the chemical processing and refining industries.

The Petroz-branded compounds deliver the lowest compression set in the industry, according to a 4 Dec press release from the Houston-based company.

The FFKM development is a “step change” in FFKM materials for the chemical processing and refining industries, claimed John Jorgensen, president of MDS.

The materials, he said, set “a new benchmark for compression set performance and [meet] challenges of high-pressure, high-temperature environments and extended lifetime service requirements.”

The MDS offerings include a 75-durometer grade with a compression set of 14% after 70 hours at 200°C, and a 90-durometer grade with a compression set of 10.5% after 70 hours at 200°C.

Lower compression set results in improved sealing performance in high-pressure, high-temperature environments over extended operating times.

Target application for the Petroz compounds include O-rings and custom moulded parts for mechanical seals, pumps, and valves.

Both compounds are said to deliver tensile strength, flexural strength and flexural modului similar to competing perfluoroelastomers and to be resistant to many chemical media.
