Brussels – Bridgestone’s Franco Annunziato is to become the new president of the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA), the association announced 13 Sept
Annunziato’s three-year tenure will start 1 Jan 2018, when he is coincidently due to step down from his current position as senior VP, chairman and CEO of Bridgestone Asia Pacific Pte Ltd.
Annunziato will replace current ETRMA president and Continental executive Christian Koetz, who took over the job in 2015.
Thierry du Granrut of the Syndicat National du Caoutchouc et des Polymeres was elected to a second term as ETRMA vice president, the association said. Mr. du Granrut's term also is for three years.
"The change at ETRMA's helm comes at an interesting time for the industry with a new wave of regulatory initiatives that will engage the industry and the European institutions in the near future" ETRMA secretary general Fazilep Cinaralp said.
Annunziato said he planned to pursue many of the goals Kötz had prioritised including "innovating to care of our employees, the environment and the consumers, and to ensure the sustainability of the industry and the environment it works in...."
The ETRMA board of directors also approved the membership of Prometeon Tyre Srl — the newly formed company that's taking over Pirelli & C. SpA's industrial tire activities — as affiliate member.
ETRMA’s new president has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rome University “La Sapienza” and is specialised in transport and infrastructure technology.
He joined Bridgestone Technical Center Europe SpA as an engineer in 1982 and has held a number of high-ranking positions within the company.
In Bridgestone, he is expected to continue to work as VP and senior advisor to Bridgestone Europe CEO and president Paolo Ferrari.
