Nederweert, The Netherlands – Dutch recycled carbon black producer Black Bear carbon black has received an official ‘cradle to cradle’ certified bronze certificate, by the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency (EPEA).
The ‘cradle to cradle certified products programme’, said Black Bear in a 29 June statement, recognises products and materials that are developed to respect “human and environmental health designed for future use cycles, and that utilise clean energy and water throughout the supply chain.”
According to the Dutch company, the certificate, which is offered by independent, third-party verified certification programme, has never before been offered to a carbon black producer.
“This certification is a clear demonstration of our commitment to accelerating the transition towards a circular economy,” said Martijn Lopes Cardozo, CEO Black Bear.
According to Black Bear, the programme had established that Black Bear’s carbon black “has extremely low levels of harmful PAH’s.”
“The Black Bear Carbon upcycled product is a game-changer in the field of carbon black. It is ‘upcycled’ because the output material is of higher quality than the input material - furnace black in car tires,” said Michael Braungart, founder and CEO of EPEA.
